Antique 18K TB Starr Medusa Intaglio Ring

Immediately recognizable by her hair made of venomous snakes, Medusa is best known in Greek mythology for her petrifying gaze. Artfully fabricated by Theodore B. Starr, one of the most prominent and influential jewelry firms in New York City at the time this ring was crafted, circa 1890. A carnelian intaglio of Medusa, depicted in profile, is simply presented in an 18k yellow gold rubover setting, with a tapered shank and closed back. Low profile and finger hugging, this ring is currently a ring size 8 1/2


 

About: Theodore B. Starr was among the most prominent and influential jewelry and silversmithing firms in New York City during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Originally in partnership with jeweler and silversmith Herman Marcus under the name of Starr & Marcus, Theodore B. Starr established his own eponymous firm in 1877.
