Pink Foiled Stuart Crystal Earrings

1,150.00

This fine pair of late 17th century Stuart crystals would have originally been cufflinks or buttons, later converted into earrings. Gold wire ciphers rest on a panel of brown plaited hair over a vivid pink foil set under rock crystal. The crystals are beautifully mounted in sterling silver cut-down settings with 14k ear wires.

Stuart crystal jewelry was produced in England under the silent support of the monarchy after the execution of King Charles I in 1649. The Royalists wore jewelry with a lock of his hair, or his initials in gold wire cipher under faceted rock crystal. This style of “Stuart” crystal led popularity of mourning jewelry that became more personal in nature by using hair of the owner or a loved one.

Crystal: 11mm x 11mm

Drop: 17.5mm - measured from the top of the earwire

Condition notes: one crystal has a small chip in one corner
