19th C Egyptian Revival Scarab Fob with Ancient Intaglio

No longer available

Egyptian themed jewelry became all the rage in the late 19th century after the opening of the Suez Canal in 1869. This delightful fob features an ancient carnelian intaglio of a satyr or possibly Marsyas seated next to double flutes, set in a hand engraved 18K gold scarab. The scarab smoothly swivels from a looped hanger, delicately wrapped in fine gold wire.

Notes: The scarab is sacred symbol of regeneration and rebirth, which is why scarab jewelry is believed to bring the wearer immortality, luck and protection.
