Egyptian themed jewelry became all the rage in the late 19th century after the opening of the Suez Canal in 1869. These delightful earrings feature glowing garnet scarabs mounted in warmly burnished 14k gold. Circa 1880.
Symbolism: The scarab is sacred symbol of regeneration and rebirth, which is why scarab jewelry is believed to bring the wearer immortality, luck and protection.
