14K JE Caldwell Citrine and Diamond Thistle Ring

$0.01

This dramatic 58 carat Madeira citrine is signed and numbered by JE Caldwell. The diamond inlaid citrine was likely once a brooch or pendant from the late Victorian era that a customer brought to JE Caldwell to be made into a ring somewhere around 1900-1915.

The table of the citrine has been masterfully carved and inlaid with tiny rose cut diamonds in the form of a thistle. Beautifully framed by fourteen rose cut diamond tipped prongs that securely hold the stone in place. The mounting is absolutely spectacular when viewed from the side. It has been finished like a crown with an elegant border of fleur-de-lis. Currently a size 5.25.

About the maker: James E. Caldwell opened a small watchmaker's shop on Fifth and Chestnut Street in Philadelphia in 1839. In 1848, the firm took on its current name, J. E. Caldwell and Company. Caldwell’s artisans were best known for their hand fabricated Art Nouveau and Art Deco jewels and rare gemstones.
