This outstanding late Victorian pendant centers on a lush, deep purple amethyst intaglio of Catherine II in the character of Minerva, the Roman goddess of wisdom. Minerva is depicted wearing a snake skin cloak and helmet crowned with laurel leaves with a tiny owl perched above her. The buff top amethyst is artfully set in a simple 18k bezel and wrapped in a softly patinated torsade border. The reverse is hand inscribed "1878" with the initials, "EMM".
