Art Deco Jeweled Articulated Butterfly Clip Brooch

$7,600.00

A captivating Art Deco articulated butterfly jewel, finely crafted in platinum and gold, set throughout with old-cut diamonds and calibré-cut rubies and sapphires. The wings are richly pavé-set with diamonds, outlined in alternating ruby and sapphire borders, and delicately engraved to suggest natural veining. The body is executed in warm gold with textured detailing, sapphire cabochon eyes, and finely modelled antennae.

To the reverse, the butterfly is fitted with a pair of sprung squeeze clips requiring firm pressure to open. These clips are not tremblant and do not create movement; instead, they function as a secure fastening system. Such mechanisms were characteristic of high-end Art Deco jewels designed for versatility, allowing the piece to be worn not only as a brooch but also as a hair ornament or clipped onto ribbons, lapels, or other fashionable accessories of the period. The strength of the clips suggests they were intended to hold firmly in place, particularly in coiffured hair.
