Brothers Walter and Harold Child founded their jewelry business in1880. They became known for their artistic jewelry, including jewels made for Sir Edward Burne-Jones. In 1892 the firm moved to 35 Alfred Place West in South Kensington. This is where they manufactured the Arts and Crafts enamel jewelry they are most noted for making. The partnership dissolved in 1899, but Harold Child continued to operate the business until his death in 1915.
Over the years Child & Child listed amongst its patrons, the late Queen Victoria, the late King Edward VII, King George V, the late Empress Frederick of Prussia, and the Tsarina of Russia.
