This captivating antique ring combines a late Georgian diamond plaque with an early Victorian 18K gold shank, richly hand-chased with bold repoussé scrollwork and acanthus leaf detail. A beautiful marriage of elements consistent with the era’s tradition of preserving fine diamond work by remounting it onto later, fashionable settings. Rather than being discarded or broken up for its stones, the plaque was given new life, a practice not uncommon among jewelers of the period who prized exceptional diamond work too much to see it lost. The elongated plaque is richly set with approximately 6 carats total weight of diamonds set in open-back cut-down collets in silver-topped gold. An impressive antique jewel with remarkable presence on the hand, carrying the romance of two generations of craftsmanship in one design. Ring size 7.
