Antique Demantoid Garnet and Diamond Salamander Brooch

$9,800.00

Did you know that salamanders were once believed to be fire resistant? The legend likely arose from their habit of hibernating under decaying logs. When those logs were carried indoors and put on the fire, the startled creatures mysteriously appeared as if they were conjured from the flames. By the Victorian era, salamanders had come to represent  resilience and enduring love.

This little ruby eyed amphibian glistens and glows with a graduated row of vibrant apple green demantoid garnets outlined with bright white old-cut diamonds set in platinum over gold. Circa 1900
