Georgian 15K Ruby, Emerald and Diamond Giardinetti Vinaigrette Locket Pendant

A rare and opulent example of Georgian artistry, this vinaigrette is masterfully handcrafted in 15 karat rose, green and yellow gold. It is lavishly adorned with sparkling diamonds, a vivid ruby, and glowing emeralds. The front showcases a giardinetto (Italian for “little garden”), a charming motif of tiny gemstone flowers arranged as a bouquet. The reverse displays an intricate design of swirling cannetille and fine wirework, accented with bright green emeralds and delicate tricolor gold details.

Vinaigrettes were essential personal accessories in the 18th and 19th centuries, designed to hold perfumed sponges soaked in aromatic vinegar or scented oils. In an era where public spaces were malodorous from unwashed bodies and clothing, rotting teeth, poor sanitation and animal waste. These small containers offered a fashionable means of reviving masking foul odors.

The lavish decoration and craftsmanship of this vinaigrette suggests it was commissioned for someone of considerable wealth and taste.
